first up was Mr Desmond Chong's shouting. and more scolding. scoldings of desperation to keep us shut up like the little children we are supposed to be, 'to be seen and not heard'. i was totally put off by his little shouting fest, but oh well i guess he was in one of his bad moods. or not.
where was i? oh yes the first real activity. the dance enrichment was fine, but that was probably because i was interested in it. unfortunately the guy 'teaching' was awesomely irritating. like some anal person, he insisted on us being totally quiet before he would proceed. however the history of modern dance was fascinating all the same, with Isadora Duncan as the founder of modern dance, as well as Martha Graham being the pioneers of modern dance and Merce Cunningham introducing the idea of marrying two different dance styles. the speaker was from NUS Dance Synergy and they performed two dances for us, Hide And Seek and Rhythm.
the song Hide And Seek was also used in So You Think You Can Dance for the top six contestants. some of the movements were similar but the NUS dancers were dressed childishly and one girl even had two ponytails. i failed to see why, until Sherrie said it was to say that hide and seek was a childish activity, or something like that.
the only problem i have with that explanation is the lyrics are not childish at all. but Sherrie can't have known that so it's fine i love Sherrie! xD here's the video from So You Think You Can Dance. Choreographed by Mia Michaels, whom i think is absolutely amazing. her routines are always beautiful. try to appreciate the dance :D the lyrics are below, as you can see and the words in bold are in the video. they cut the song because they don't get much time for the dances, only 2 min or so. and watch out for the parts where they dance to the words and to the beats and music of the song. beautiful and amazing, that's what Mia Michaels is XD i love her!
Hide And Seek - Imogen Heap
Where are we
What the hell is going on
The dust has only just began to fall
Crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling
Spin me around again and rub my eyes
This can't be happening
When busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines?
All those years they were here first
Oily marks appear on walls
Where pleasue moments hung before
The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this
Still life
Hide and seek
Trains and sewing machines
Oh, you won't catch me around here
Blood and tears they were here first
Hmm what you say
Oh that you only meant well, well of course you did
Hmm what you say
Hmm that it's all for the best, of course it is
Hmm what you say
That it's just what we need, you decided this
Hmm what you say
What did she say
Ransom notes keep falling at your mouth
Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
Speak no feeling no i don't believe you
You don't care a bit you don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit
You don't care a bit

amazing, no? i hope you watched it!!! if not i'd be so sad. ): lol. the next dance was Rhythm, and that dance was boring, i felt. the speaker kept going how modern dance was about emotion yet that dance had no emotion. irony much. i show you another dance with emotion.
remember Travis Wall, the guy showed us one of his solos, and here is another one! he's really dancing to the words of the song, i command thee to watch! 8D and his spins and turns are sick, seriously. i'd kill to have half his talent.
and his audition, if you've watched the previous ones you'd watch this cos i bet i've made you fall in love with him already HAHA<3
AND ONE MORE BECAUSE I LOVE IVAN KOUMAEV TOO HAHA IDC IF YOU WATCH THIS, THIS IS FOR MEEEEEEEEEE 8D
love the catwalk he did <3
OH OH I JUST HAD TO ADD THIS IN, even though Ivan does hip hop. you can still dance to the words of the song for hip hop. you just don't do the same for ballet, or ballroom. ball room i think it's only more of the emotion that's brought across.
i adore this kid. love the part when he says to the judges "you guys are cool, love ya." and "i'll shine your shoes" LOLOL.
i'm sorry for the influx of videos but i love this show and i love these dancers. after the dance enrichment which i have spent so much time on, we had the inter-class games, basketball and volleyball. this part was really not well-organised at all and people were all around the place, so no one really cared. basketball and volleyball matches were happening at the same time too, which was utterly confusing and you really didn't know where to go.
chingmay and i bought corn nuts and coke/sprite from 2e5 for their fund raising and that was recess. we watched the volleyball matches because it was conveniently in the hall, away from the heat. the matches were hilarious because no one really was really good at it unless they were from volleyball itself. chingmay was hurting from yesterday's motley crue concert, bet she's sleeping now.
we slacked until 12 and we has the SCIENCE PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT(SPA) briefing, which is counted in O levels. then some literature performance with skits on ~love & sex~ and "not getting into trouble unless you want trouble to trouble you".
then lunch with Shannen and i came home to blogggggggg. math tuition tomorrow! hopefully i'll pass the re-exams well.
and i updated my livejournal, go take a look IF YOU'RE MY FRIEND ON LJ hahaha.
loves,
el.
that was the closest i was ever going to get to you.
